One Red Paper Clip

What would life be like without a standard currency? Would the barter system actually work in our society? Check out the story of Kyle McDonald, a man with a red paper clip and a dream.
The story does not end there though... check out the blog below to read what else Kyle was able to get with his bartering abilities. Be prepared to discuss how Kyle was able to get his house.

I currently have mixed feelings about an economy with no currency. I partly feel that with no currency our economy can survive but at its bare minimum. Naturally, some sort of a barter system would take effect. Without a standardized currency, items, services and resources would be the only thing left trade for other items, services and resources.
However without currency, our society would not be able to continue on its current track. We would no be able to enjoy many of the luxuries we enjoy today. For example, it would be nearly impossible to aquire expensive goods such as automobiles and electronic goods. And without a uniform curency, there would be no more investment in businesses and the stock market.
I also feel that without currency, investment, and the ability to attain high-end goods citizens would lose the incentive to work. Without workers, no goods will be made and then there would be much less to trade within the barter system.
